- A Patient's Story: The Power of Apology
Millennium Insurance Company in collaboration with Health Talk Radio is pleased to announce the release of its first
risk management program on Compact Disc. All Millennium insured physicians will receive a complimentary copy of the CD. The
program tells the story of Linda Kenney and her physician Rick Van Pelt, MD, subsequent to inadvertent
medical error at Brigham & Women's Hospital. Hosted by Sheri Putnam of Health Talk Radio and special guests Albert Wu, MD, MPH,
of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Roger Mecum, Executive Vice President of the Pennsylvania Medical
Society, listeners gain a better understanding of how apology may minimize the opportunity for a medical malpractice
lawsuit. As an added benefit, listeners qualify to receive one hour, Category II CME.
- Management Pearls on Disclosure of Adverse Events
The disclosure of adverse events, or unanticipated outcomes, is an evolving process in health care. Difficult issues
center on when, how, and what to say during disclosure. This 44-page, pocket-sized booklet describes organizational scenarios
and strategies for implementing and enhancing the practice of disclosure.
