ACADEMY ADMISSIONS

Admission Considerations
Valley Forge Military Academy seeks to enroll young men of sound moral character that possess scholastic, mental and physical qualities in order to succeed in a rigorous college preparatory environment. In particular, we look for young men who are motivated to achieve their full potential and go on to succeed at the top colleges and universities in the U.S. The Academy has a rolling admissions policy for enrollment beginning in the fall or winter semesters.

Exceptional Value
When you consider the life-changing impact Valley Forge Military Academy has on the young men who attend, the experience is one of tremendous value. Annual charge for 2004-05 is $26,450. This cost encompasses tuition and fees, room and board, uniforms, required personal supplies, laundry and dry-cleaning, haircuts, shoe repair, and health care. Other expenses may include computer/technology fee, textbooks, personal allowance, SCUBA training, aviation and driver's education, or membership in the cavalry troop or artillery battery. A fee is charged for Health Center care that lasts more than 24 hours. If you're ready to take command of your future at a school that will change your life, and if you meet the requirements, then we urge you to apply to Valley Forge Military Academy. Here's how:

Academy Admissions Application Process
The following information is provided to assist you with the application process.
Please call the Admissions Office at 800-234-VFMA (8362) with any questions.

Application Requirements: Applications are welcomed from young men in mainstream classes who have demonstrated good citizenship and who are motivated to become cadets. Applicants should be physically fit and free from any factors that could limit their full participation in cadet life. All applications are screened by Admissions upon receipt in order to ensure that they are competitive and also by the medical staff because some conditions cannot be supported at Valley Forge.

Application Process: The submission of a completed Valley Forge application form with payment of the non-refundable $100 application fee is required to be classified as an applicant. Upon receipt of an application, transcripts and teacher evaluations will be requested from the applicant's school. The candidate must achieve a qualifying score on the entrance examination and pass a candidate interview. Detailed information on medical conditions and treatments must be provided by the appropriate physician. Two (2) letters of recommendation are required in support of each application. A decision cannot be rendered until the applicant file is complete. Please follow these procedures carefully:

  1. Applicant Visit and Tour: All candidates must schedule an applicant visit and tour of the campus. Applicant visits are held on an appointment basis Monday through Friday at either 10:00 am or 1:00 pm. When necessary, applicant visits may also be accomplished during our regularly scheduled Sunday Campus Visitations, scheduled for the following dates:

  2. 16 May 2004
    27 June 2004

  3. Testing: All applicants must take the entrance exam. This will be administered during the Applicant Visit or Campus Visitation. Under certain circumstances, the SSAT may be substituted for the entrance exam by the Admissions Officer.

  4. Medical:

Medications: The prescribing physician must supply written verification on letterhead stationery of the type, dosage, and reason for all medications taken.

Psychiatrist/psychologist: Applicants who have seen a psychologist or psychiatrist will be provided with a detailed questionnaire to be completed and returned by the health care provider.

Physicals: All candidates are required to have had a (school) physical examination by a physician within six (6) months of their reporting date. If this is not possible, a physical may be performed at our Health Center after reporting. There is a fee for this service.

  5. Recommendations: Applicants must submit at least two (2) letters of recommendation from adults who are not teachers or relatives in support of their application.

  6. Application Deadline: The official application deadline for Fall is 10 August 2004. In order to avoid the risk of being placed on the waiting list, a much earlier start is recommended.

  7. Formal Decision: Your Admissions Officer will keep you informed of the status of your applicant file. Once it is complete, he will assign his overall recommendation and submit it to the Admissions Committee for a decision. You will be notified in writing of this decision.

  8. Acceptance and Validation: Once you have received written notification of acceptance, you must submit a Validation Fee of $1,000 payable to VFMA. This payment, credited toward the cost of tuition, verifies your intent to matriculate. Validation removes your son's name from the pool of accepted applicants and actually assigns him to a bed in the barracks.

  9. Wait List: In the event of enrollment beyond the accommodation capacity of the barracks, a waiting list will be established, based upon validation date.

  10. Payment: 100% of the cost of school is due prior to arrival. Please consult the Billing and Payment Policies handout for complete billing and payment information.

Please call the Admissions Office at (800) 234-VFMA if you have any questions.
