Alumni Memorial Chapel of St. Cornelius the Centurion

Located at the northwest corner of the Main Area, the Chapel is situated on the highest point of the grounds. Its graceful spire reaches 110 feet heavenward and its carillon can be heard for a distance of five miles. A profound tribute to the men of Valley Forge who gave their lives for their country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, the Chapel features a great deal of ecclesiastical equipment generously donated by families and friends in honor or in memory of loved ones. Such equipment includes the altar, organ, baptismal font, pews, and stained- glass windows. As the Chapel neared completion in 1950, the cornerstone was presented to the school by President Harry S. Truman.

GEN Al SanelliAlthough VFMA&C is nonsectarian and the Corps of Cadets includes all faiths, weekly Sunday worship service at the Chapel is Christian in nature and content. Visitors are always welcome at the Chapel service, held each Sunday during the school year at 11:00 a.m.  Speakers at the Sunday service include prominent clergymen of different faiths, recognized leaders in the fields of education and national affairs, and members of VFMA&C faculty and administrative staff.

Chaplain is Brigadier General Alfred A. Sanelli PG '39 (pictured at right), who also acts as Director of Character Education and Special Assistant to the President. He was previously a Dean of the Academy and College, Professor of Military Science, and Instructor of English. He was cited as a leader in American Secondary School Education in 1971 and received the VFMAC Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1981.

Vesper services are also held in the Chapel.  Weekly Vespers occur on Tuesday evenings and a Holiday Vespers service is held each December (shown below). Vesper services feature  a speaker, usually a senior cadet of the Corps or a faculty/staff member who covers various aspects of the honor trait of the month.

The Chapel is available for weddings throughout the year. With Eisenhower Hall and the Mellon Hall Ballroom in close proximity, many couples come to The Forge when they plan their wedding services and reception.  Packages are available to accommodate any special occasion.  For more information, please click here.
