RESOURCES
and PROGRAMS
VFMA&C provides support programs for international
students in order to ensure academic and personal success
at the institution. Among these are two summer programs that can give the incoming student
extra assistance prior to the start of the academic year.
English Language Institute
The English
Language Institute (ELI) program gives international students the opportunity to
receive English
language training prior to the start of the academic year. The program is open to incoming
Academy students, and enables you to gain confidence in your English language skills and
receive exposure to American culture. The five-week summer program includes intensive
coursework in speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar, as well as weekend field
trips and activities that combine historical and cultural awareness of the United States
with opportunities to use English in real-life situations. The cost of tuition and
expenses for the ELI program is $3,300.00.
Summer COMPASS Program for College Cadets
This four-week, limited-enrollment summer program is for students enrolling as college
freshmen who could benefit from developing their study techniques and time management
skills. The program offers academic remediation in mathematics, English, reading
comprehension and study skills, and readily accepts students for whom English is a second
language. Tuition for the COMPASS program is $2,500, plus application fees.
